The CROCUS project focuses on cross-border cultural and creative tourism in rural and remote areas. It is funded by Horizon Europe for the years 2024 to 2027.

Project description

CROCUS aims to address socio-economic challenges in rural and remote areas by promoting cultural and creative tourism. The project incorporates a multi-scalar research design, innovative cross-border living labs, and participatory processes to prototype sustainable business models. The consortium consists of leading scholars and practitioners who have extensive experience in cross-border tourism development, stakeholder engagement, and policy analysis.

CROCUS is coordinated by Aalborg University and involves partners from various locations across Europe:

3.      The Netherlands (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education),

4.      Slovenia (University of Maribor),

5.      Finland (University of Oulu),

6.      Bulgaria (Zangandor Research Institute),

7.      Croatia (University of Rijeka),

8.      Estonia (Tallinn University),

9.      Hungary (University of Pannonia).

The CROCUS consortium encompasses all four EU macro-regions, from the Baltic in the north, through the Alps and the Danube, to the Ionian and Adriatic in the south.
