Library Rules

1. Upon registration, students must present their student ID. International students must present their student ID and passport, while other users must provide a valid personal identification document.

2. University of Maribor (UM) students pay the membership fee as part of their enrollment fees for the current academic year. UM students enrolled in the university records (but do not have active student status) pay the membership fee upon renewal of student services. Other users pay an annual membership fee at the library.

3. Each time they visit, users must present their membership card, which is non-transferable.

4. Users can borrow up to five books at a time. They are financially responsible for the borrowed materials.

5. Users cannot borrow multiple copies of the same title.

6. Currently unavailable books may be reserved in person or through COBISS+ and mCOBISS using the “My libraries” password.

7. Reserved materials must be picked up within ten days. Due to high demand, the library may shorten the reservation period. Users are notified of the arrival of reserved materials via email or SMS. A user who fails to collect online-reserved materials three times may have this option temporarily revoked.

8. The standard loan period is one month, which may be shortened due to high demand. Students with disabilities may borrow mandatory study materials for the entire academic year, provided the library holds at least ten copies of the item.

Users may renew their loans before the due date in person, by phone, or via COBISS+ and mCOBISS under the “My libraries” tab. Reserved items or materials past the due date cannot be renewed.

9. Users who exceed the loan period are charged overdue fines according to the current fee schedule for each borrowed item.

10. Users who lose borrowed materials must replace them with identical copies. The item must be replaced with an equivalent if it is unavailable. The library charges compensation for damaged books. Writing in books is strictly prohibited, as it damages the materials.

11. Users must report any pre-existing damage to materials when borrowing; otherwise, they will be held responsible upon return.

12. Materials designated for use in the reading room may not be taken home. They are to be used exclusively on the premises.

13. Suppose a desired book is not available in the library. In that case, users may request it through interlibrary loan from other libraries in Slovenia (such as the Central Library of Economics, the Bank of Slovenia, or the Institute for Economic Research, Ljubljana). They must cover the associated costs according to the current price list. The library does not process interlibrary loan requests for books from libraries within Maribor.

14. Materials can only be borrowed through a prior request by email or COBISS3. An individual may place an interlibrary loan request only through another library, which assumes responsibility for the materials. The requesting library must be listed in the COBIB database of Slovenian libraries.

15. Photocopying must comply with copyright and other intellectual property regulations.

16. Returns by mail must be sent as registered shipments and follow valid postal regulations.

17. Users must maintain silence and a study-friendly environment in the reading room. Mobile phones must be turned off, and coats or bags must be stored before entering.

18. The library is not responsible for users’ personal belongings.

19. Users must return Books in the reading room to their proper place. Books used elsewhere in the library must be returned to a librarian.

20. In the event of a triggered security system, users must cooperate with the library staff.

21. Students must return all borrowed materials and settle any outstanding obligations at the end of their studies. The library will then issue a clearance certificate, which students must submit to the Centre for Education.

22. The Head of the Library may only grant any exceptions to these library rules.

23. In serious violations of library rules (e.g., theft, intentional damage of materials), users must pay for the damage. They may be temporarily or permanently banned from accessing and using the libraries of the University of Maribor.
