The Faculty of Economics and Business held the 3rd International Summer School "Sustainability in International Business," from 6 to 14 September 2024. The Summer School attended 39 students, studying different disciplines at their home universities in eight countries.

The virtual part of the Summer School on 6 September 2024, was performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Romana Korez Vide from UM FEB. On Monday, 9 September 2024, two academic lectures were held: by Prof. Dr. Igor Todorović from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Banja Luka and Prof. Dr. Alfonso Reyes Alvarado from the University of Ibague, Colombia.

Two presentations on good practices followed the academic lectures: the lecture on the implementation of sustainability in international business operations in the plastic manufacturing industry, delivered by Dr. Urban Feguš, Head of Development at company Skaza d.o.o. and the lecture on implementation of sustainability in the electro-industry, delivered by Mrs. Dalija Delić, MSc, Sustainability Specialist in company Iskraemeco, d.d. On Tuesday, 10 September 2024, an academic lecture on cybersecurity was delivered by Prof. Dr. Scott J. Shackelford from the Kelley School of Business of Indiana University, USA. In a follow-up to Tuesday's program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tjaša Štrukelj from UM FEB conducted a learning workshop on a strategic view of value chain sustainability with students.

The Tuesday afternoon program consisted of presentations of two good practices in the field of implementation of sustainability in international business: first, Mrs. Anita Jerala Peterman, Head of Procurement in ELAN Sports Division, presented the sustainable aspects of Elan's operations as a whole, with an emphasis on the company's sports division. In the following lecture, the students learned about an example of good practice in the field of implementation of sustainability in the household appliances industry; Mrs. Marjanca Repše, Head of SI/TE-IS SI/TE-IS in BSH Nazarje, presented the sustainability good practice of company BSH Nazarje, which is part of the Bosch group.

On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, Mr. Blaž Medja, Sustainability Manager at Pivovarna Laško Union (part of the Heineken Group), presented various elements of sustainability in the company's international operations, citing responsible drinking of alcohol and efforts to increase the company's social impact in this area as an essential aspect of social sustainability. Mrs. Martina Santoni, Sustainability Officer at AQUAFIL Italy, S.P.A, presented their business model, which focused on waste collection and chemical recycling. In the mid-afternoon part of the summer school program, Mr. Bor Trček, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Quality Assurance Department in HOFER Slovenia, discussed an extensive company sustainability practice, which made the company one of the leading international discount stores in sustainability implementation. The presentation of good practices was followed by an interactive learning workshop, conducted by Assoc. Prof. dr. Romana Korez Vide from UM FEB.

On Thursday's (12 September 2024) program were three workshops: Prof. Dr. Barbara Bradač Hojnik from UM FEB conducted the first educational workshop on sustainable startups in the global economy, and Prof. Dr. Romana Korez Vide from UM FEB conducted the other two workshops.

Friday, 13 September 2024, aimed to learn about implementing sustainable aspects in the Slovenian tourism offer. Students visited Bled, where Mrs. Maja Lakota from Bled Tourist Board comprehensively presented the elements of sustainable tourism in Bled. Then, the tourist guide presented the destination, emphasizing the practical aspects of sustainability. The students also visited a private sustainable tourist provider Ribno Alpine Resort at Bled, which is committed to operating according to the "zero emission" concept.
