Življenjepis

Dr. Davorin Kračun se je rodil v Mariboru 31. oktobra 1950. Univerzitetno diplomo s področja ekonomije je prejel v Mariboru1974, magisterij (1978) in doktorat (1981) s področja ekonomskih znanosti pa na Univerzi v Zagrebu.

S poučevanjem in znanstvenim raziskovanjem na področju ekonomije je pričel na Visoki ekonomsko-komercialni šoli (sedaj Ekonomsko-poslovna fakulteta Univerze v Mariboru) leta 1974 kot asistent. Leta 1982 je bil izvoljen v naziv docenta, 1987 izrednega profesorja in 1995 v naziv rednega profesorja. V letih 1983-1987 je bil prodekan Fakultete.

Profesor Kračun je bil v Vladi Republike Slovenije minister za zunanje zadeve (1996-1997), minister za ekonomske odnose in razvoj in podpredsednik Vlade (1993-1995) ter minister za planiranje (1992-1993). Med drugim je bil tudi predsednik ekonomskega sveta Vlade (1995-1997), član sveta Narodne banke Slovenije (1986-1991) in član upravnega odbora Gospodarske zbornice Slovenije (1988-1992). V vladi je bil med drugim odgovoren za koordinacijo makroekonomske stabilizacije in pripravo razvojne strategije, lastniško preoblikovanje podjetij, pristop v GATT in WTO, bilateralne gospodarske sporazume in za koordinacijo ekonomskih politik.

V letih 1997-2000 je bil predsednik nadzornega sveta Nove kreditne banke Maribor in družbe Terme Maribor.

V letih 2000-2004 je bil izredni in pooblaščeni veleposlanik Republike Slovenije v Združenih državah Amerike in v Mehiki (s sedežem v Washingtonu D.C.). Po vrnitvi v domovino se je ponovno zaposlil na Ekonomsko-poslovni fakulteti Univerze v Mariboru kot profesor za področje ekonomske teorije in politike in predstojnik katedre za politično ekonomijo. Je tudi nosilec predmeta Ekonomska diplomacija na podiplomskem študiju Fakultete za družbene vede Univerze v Ljubljani. Trenutno je predsednik akademskega zbora EPF.

Njegovo bibliografijo sestavlja preko 400 vpisov, med katerimi so znanstveni in strokovni članki in monografije, univerzitetni učbeniki, raziskovalna poročila, vabljena predavanja na univerzah po svetu, prispevki na konferencah, diskusije in komentarji. Profesor dr. Kračun je bil tudi avtor in gostitelj izobraževalne serije na nacionalni TV. Bil je tudi med ustanovitelji Instituta za ekonomsko diagnozo in prognozo EPF Univerze v Mariboru. Glavni znanstveno raziskovalni rezultati so na treh področjih:

1. Zasnova in razvoj dinamičnega interdependenčnega modela in njegova aplikacija v analizah ekonomskopolitičnih alternativ Slovenije

2. Konceptualna analiza procesov tranzicije in umestitev slovenskega modela

3. Primerjalne analize cen in gospodarskih dosežkov Slovenije v mednarodnem prostoru

Profesor Kračun je poročen, ima soprogo Andrejo, hčer Matejo in sina Tineta.

 

Biography

 

Professor Davorin Kračun, Ph.D. was born in Maribor on the 31st of October 1950. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Maribor in 1974, M.Phil. in 1978, and Ph.D. in 1981, both in Economics, from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

He has been lecturing economics and performed scientific research at the School of Business and Economics at the University of Maribor since 1974, where he became a full professor in 1995. He was Vice-Dean of the School of Business and Economics from 1983 to 1987 and was one of the founders of the Institute for Economic Diagnosis and Prognosis.

Professor Kračun was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1996-1997), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Relations and Development (1993-1995) and Minister of Planning (1992-1993). His other assignments were: Chairman of the Economic Council of the Government (1995-1997), a member of the Council of the Slovenian National Bank (1986-1991), and a member of the Board of Directors of the Slovenian Economic Chamber (1988-1992). While in the government, his responsibilities included: coordinating macroeconomic stabilization and development strategy, ownership transformation, accession to GATT and WTO, bilateral trade agreements, and coordinating economic policies.

Between 1997 and 2000 he was the Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of the bank "Nova kreditna banka Maribor" and the corporation "Terme Maribor".

From 2000 until 2004 Dr Davorin Kračun served as the Ambassador of Slovenia to the United States of America and to Mexico (residing in Washington D.C.). In 2004 he returned to the University of Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business, where he is a professor of Economics and the Chair of the Department for Political Economy. Recently he was elected Academic Chairman of the Faculty. He also teaches Economic Diplomacy in the graduate program of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana.

His bibliography consists of more than 400 subjects, among which are scientific and professional papers and books, university textbooks, research reports, proceedings, discussions and comments. Professor Kračun also authored and hosted an educational series on Slovenian television.  He spoke at a number of universities worldwide. Some of the most significant results of his scientific research can be grouped into three fields:

1. A concept and construction of a dynamic interdependence model which is applied in the analysis of the alternatives to the economic policy in Slovenia;

2. Theoretical analysis of transition models and processes, applied to the Slovenian case;

3. Analysis of prices and economic performance of Slovenia in international comparison.

Professor Kračun is married and has two children.
